Meet the Owner

Richard Rood

Hello, I’m Richard Rood though, those who know me call me Dick. I had the privilege of serving our country towards the tail end of the Korean War. Shortly there after I married my wife Darlene. For 10 years I worked for an air conditioning company after which myself and 4 others started a mechanical contracting company based out of Santa Clara, CA. Over the years, I purchased the other 4 shares in the company and have been the sole owner for 53 years. In 1985, we bought the property for and in 1999 built our retirement home in Swansboro, CA.

In 2006, I was able to fulfill a long term dream and built Mosquito Creek Outfitters in Placerville. Through our clients I found there was a need for somewhere they could practice shooting sports and in 2018, after I had “retired”, Hangtown Range was born. Located in what had been an abandoned tire store on Broadway, we began renovation on what you see today. We have greatly enjoyed living in the Placerville area and continue to look forward to engaging with our community every chance we get in our busy “retirement”. Thank you for being the best part of our range.

Meet the Instructor

Jenna Lute

Jenna is a Chief Range Safety Officer and holds several instructor credentials in firearm disciplines including Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun, as well as being a very busy CCW instructor in Northern California. She is a POST Academy Instructor and a POST Firearms Instructor. She has degrees in Criminal Law and Administration of Justice but spent fifteen years of her early career dedicated to public and private elementary school education. She often says, “Teaching adults how to shoot semi-automatic pistols is a lot like teaching kindergarteners how to blow their nose.  It’s all about properly explaining the steps needed to get to the desired result.” In her younger years, she enjoyed competitive shooting. Now she’s focused on training for defensive shooting and helping individuals develop their orientation and combat mindset. She is committed to bringing more women into the world of shooting sports and personal protection training. She is driven to grow as an instructor and a resource for her community. She describes herself as being a wife, mother, student, and an instructor, in that order.
